Why Am I Writing a Time Travel Book Series for Young Adults?
Why am I writing a series of time travel novels? The simple answer: Because I’ve always dreamed of being a famous author, and time travel seemed like a fun concept.
Oh, how foolish I was.
I never I would have picked such a complicated subject for my first series had I known how difficult it would be to plan an eleven-book story ark when a single change could radically alter the course of the entire series. But I was young, optimistic, and determined to write an epic tale capable of rivalling Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.
The Nibiru Effect, The Virtuality Theory, and The Individuality Gene—the first three books in my epic young adult, science fiction, and fantasy series—were published in early 2019, and The Death Trials (Book 4) is currently under revision. I’m about halfway through The Inverted Evolution (Book 5), and I’m also writing a collaborative book entitled The Memory Thief for my newsletter subscribers. In other words, I’m living the dream.
Although I’m a published author, I have yet to make a living from my writing, and I’m nowhere near famous. But you know what? I don’t care. I’m doing what I love, and that’s all that matters.
Okay, so we’ve covered the basics, but I still haven’t answered your question.
Why am I writing a series of time travel novels?
I’m not sure. I could say it’s because I’ve always loved reading epic adventures where ordinary teenagers battle impossible odds to save the world; I could also claim it’s because I absolutely adored reading series like Pendragon and Percy Jackson; I could even pretend it’s because I’m obsessed with anything that has to do with science fiction and fantasy. But the truth is…
I don’t know.
Writing is a major part of who I am, and I couldn’t imagine my life without it. I first started working on the Will Save series when I was 23, and the characters have evolved along with me, transforming from one-dimensional characters into fully fleshed people with unique thoughts, traits, and beliefs. In fact, I think of them as my friends, and I mourn the day I will no longer get to chronicle their stories. I…
I think I’ve finally figured out why I’m writing this series. It has nothing to do with time travel or the fact that I love science fiction and fantasy. I’m writing this story because I’m the only one capable of bringing it to life. Without me, Will, Kara, and Jonn wouldn’t exist.
Some people will hate my books. Others will love them. But none of that matters, because I got to spend all this time creating this incredible story and bringing the countless characters and creatures that inhabit it to life, and I couldn’t think of a better way to invest what little time I have on this earth.
Wow! I can’t believe I finally figured it out. Thanks for the help. In fact, here’s a little token of my appreciation:
